Letter from Joseph Henry, Princeton College, New Jersey to [James Clark] Ross, London Henry acknowledges receiving Ross’s letter and the needles and is sending a copy of his latest paper along with articles of interest. Refers to the ‘results of a series of meteorological observations continued since 1825’. Henry is sending Ross a list of auroras observed in the [United States of America] during the last two years, and suggests corresponding this with a list of auroras seen in England. Henry expresses his interest in science more ‘in line of’ Dr [Michael] Faraday, than [Edward] Sabine and Ross, but is ‘anxious’ to do what he can for its advancement. Any observations made regarding terrestrial magnetism Henry will forward to his ‘friend’ [Alexander Dallas] Bache. Reference to preparations of an expedition to the ‘south for magnetic observations’ under Ross’s command [referring to the Antarctic expedition].
