Letter from 'Tom' [Thomas Edward Thorpe], Cheyenne, Wyoming, to [Caroline] Emma [Thorpe] A mix-up with baggage meant that he has gone ahead with Wright to Cheyenne, leaving [Arthur] Schuster and Haskins in Denver. This has given Thorpe the opportunity to make a series of magnetic determinations. He describes the development of Cheyenne from the frontier shanty 'Hell on Wheels', to a thriving town. Intends to continue to Ogden on the Union Pacific Railway, then Salt Lake City. 10 August 1878
