<dc:title>Letter from Wm [William] Harkness, Naval Observatory, Washington DC, to [Thomas Edward] Thorpe</dc:title>
<dc:description>Describes unsuccessful attempts to find a means of reproducing eclipse photographs for publication. He intends to make drawings from the photographs, including one showing the 'great wings of the outer corona'. Encloses a numbered set of photographs of the eclipse taken at Creston [present]. Thanks Thorpe for the paper on absorption spectra of iodine, but draws his attention to Professor [Edward Charles] Pickering's priority over Professor [George Gabriel] Stokes on the method of determining wavelengths.

With five photographic prints, pencilled verso: 1-3 and 5-6.</dc:description>
