<dc:title>Letter book of the Officers and Assistant Secretaries of the Royal Society </dc:title>
<dc:description>Secretarial copies of outgoing letters on general Royal Society business, financial and administrative matters.

The volume commences at the date of the appointment of John William Lubbock as Treasurer of the Society (from 30 November 1830). The volume contains much of his letter output on behalf of the Royal Society. Since Lubbock was a partner in the family banking firm of J W Lubbock & Company, it would appear that he introduced a more businesslike approach to record-keeping at the Society.

At the beginning the letter book, therefore, the contents are largely financial. This changes as contributions are copied in from other Royal Society Officers and from the Assistant Secretaries. </dc:description>
