Copy letter, JWL [John William Lubbock], Rl Socy [Royal Society], to Mr J [John] Clayton Freeling A resolution was made at the last meeting of the Excise Committee that Mr Bate's new hydrometer is to be recommended to the Lords of the Treasury for adoption. The associated tables should be complete in about a fortnight when the committee will make its final report. Mr. Bates's ill health has prevented the experiments being prosecuted with vigour. Otherwise the report would have been ready earlier. 10 December 1835
