Copy letter from [John] Wrottesley; President of the Royal Society; to the Duke of Argyll Updates the Duke of Argyll [George Douglas Campbell] on the situation of the 'juxtaposition mention' [the move to Burlington house]. Following a deputation to Mr [James] Wilson of the Treasury of the Societies, he offered temporary accommodation at Burlington house, in the event a more suitable building may be built. All but the Royal Society refused the offer, although the Geological and Astronomical Societies agreed to move once a suitable and permanent residence had been approved and built. John Wrottesley picked the rooms that will suit the needs of the Royal Society. Asks that other societies who will not move from Somerset House not to be prejudiced for their decision and asks Argyll to forward the letter to Lord Harrowby [Dudley Ryder]. 30 April 1856
