Copy letter from [George Gabriel] Stokes, Secretary of the Royal Society; to Major [John] Herschel R.E. FRS Replies that the conclusion of the enquiry is inferred from the evidence put before the Council. States that although only the Kew Committee minutes were consulted, rather than original documents, points out from the table in [John] Herschel's letter, the differences would have been very small. Informs Herschel that this letter is intended to be an unofficial addition to the previous one [See MS/427/100], but he may treat it as he wishes. 23 April 1881
