Copy letter from [George Gabriel] Stokes, Secretary of the Royal Society; to John Bramston Esq., Colonial Office Informs of the gratitude of the the Circumpolar Committee to the Earl of Kimberly [John Wodehouse] and Marquis of Lorne [John George Edward Henry Douglas Sutherland Campbell, also known as the Duke of Argyll] for their efforts. They were successful and the Government of Canada will give £4000 to cover the costs of travel from Halifax to Lake Slave and back again. 5 May 1882
