<dc:title>Copy letter from [William] Spottiswoode, President of the Royal Society; to Eden Colvile Esq.</dc:title>
<dc:description>Informs Eden Colvile of having received letters from Captain Dawson of his arrival at Fort Rae [Behchoko`] on the coast of Lake Slave in Canada [Circumpolar Expedition]. States it is important for Dawson to remain on the site of the observatory for a year and to leave before ice makes it impossible. Suggests 1 September as a leave date, no later than 10th or 12th. States the small ship provided can accommodate his party plus 3-4 'canoe men of Indians' and the journey to Fort Chipewyan will take 12 days in average weather. </dc:description>
