The manuscript bears a pencil inscription: 'Surgeon Major, Civil Surgeon, Muskat'.  The naturalist and surgeon Atmaram Sadashiva Grandin Jayakar (1844-1911) was posted to Muscat in 1870, becoming Surgeon Major on the 1880s.   </dc:description>
