<dc:title>Copy letter from [Leonard] Darwin to [Sir William Huggins]</dc:title>
<dc:description>Thinks the conference may do some good. The opinion of the [Royal Geographical Society] Council is unclear. Since Sir Clements [Markham] initiated the Expedition they are inclined to back him, but 'there is a considerable minority who distrust him'. The conference will be an opportunity to understand the Royal Society's 'attitude', and if no concession can be made then Darwin suggests arbitration.

With some additional notes [by Huggins], noting that they must come to an understanding about a specific point before the meeting. Also a note that a copy of the letter has been sent to [Sir Michael] Foster and to 'you' [Alfred Bray Kempe].</dc:description>
