Copy of memorandum signed by E [Sir Edwin] Ray Lankester, relating to George Murray's appointment on the Antarctic Expedition The trustees of the British Museum have granted Murray a special leave of absence for two or three months, with full pay, to participate in the Antarctic Expedition. He is to act as the head of the scientific staff until the 'Discovery' reaches Melbourne, where the role will be taken over by Professor J W [John Walter] Gregory. Murray's duties will be covered during his absence, and his personal expenses will be paid from the Expedition funds. 16 May 1901
