Items discussed:

7. Sir Clements Markham reported a donation of £25,000 from Mr Llewellyn W [Wood] Longstaff towards the Expedition, and that the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York had agreed to act as Patrons. The expedition fund now amounts to £40,000.

8. A draft of a letter to the Lords of the Admiralty was laid before the Committee.

9. A rough estimate of the probable expedition expenditure was made, the total amounting to £80,000. The minutes include an itemised table of costs.

10. It was resolved that the President of the Royal Society and the President of the Royal Geographical Society should request a meeting with Mr A J [Arthur James] Balfour to discuss the subject. Sir John Murray and Professor [Arthur William] Rucker should also attend the meeting. Further action on the draft letter was postponed.

11. It was resolved that a letter should be sent to Baron [Ferdinand Freiherr] von Richthofen, officially informing him about the English expedition and requesting information about the German expedition, and to suggest a Conference to arrange for cooperation between the expeditions.</dc:description>
