Letter from Henry E [Edward] Armstrong, 55 Granville Park, Lewisham, London, to [Joseph] Larmor He asks Larmor why he does not make scientific opinion tell. The position is that the Royal Society is in unimaginative German hands and the President has sold himself to the 'money baggers', letting the Fellows down by taking subordinate tasks. 'He has sold us absolutely to the enemy'. Armstrong thinks that the display at the [Royal Society?] Club the previous evening was disgraceful, and the gentlemen declined should not have been proposed. It is selfishness that is leading them to the neglect of higher interests and to work in cliques. 8 July 1917
