<dc:title>Letter from E T [Edmund Taylor] Whittaker, 48 George Square, Edinburgh, to Sir Joseph [Larmor]</dc:title>
<dc:description>Larmor's letter has been passed on to him by D'Arcy Thompson, proposing the publication of an enlarged edition of the Proceedings obituary of Lord Kelvin. Whittaker would be happy to help in making this possible, believing that Sylvanus Thompson's 'Life' of Kelvin was poor, as the author could not follow Kelvin's higher mathamatics. Kelvin's |Presidency of the R.S.E. [Royal Society of Edinburgh] would make it a fit publishing undertaking. Whittaker outlines the difficulties involved: commencing with the Society's financial position after publishing the Gregory volumes; and then the state of Kelvin's reputation in a world dominated by quantum mechanics. </dc:description>
