Letter from J [Joseph] Larmor, Helen's Bay, Belfast, to [Frederick Thomas] Trouton Larmor has delayed replying as there was no time at Glasgow, but he has written to the British Association about the blocks. He outlines his notion 'about the idea running in Fitzgerald's head', discussing a moving electric ion with an magnetic field. He gives the case of two ions with positive and negative charge starting into existence with the velocity of the Earth through the aether, needing an initial impulse 'just as a bullet does'. Larmor discourses upon this, and sends a rough calculation which he thinks is the point of Trouton's experiment. This might be sent to the Royal Society, and if Trouton were to write again, Larmor asks for the return of his letters, 'lest I forget what I have put down'. 22 September 1901
