<dc:title>Letter from J [Joseph] Larmor, St John's College, Cambridge, to [Richard] Threlfall</dc:title>
<dc:description>The Vice Chancellor agrees that Larmor should consult Threlfall in strict confidence about the chemistry election. [William Jackson] Pope is the only candidate under forty years of age. They are unsure of Pope's powers of management and temper, which are more important for the job than originality as a chemist. [Henry John Horstman] Fenton's name has also been suggested and Larmor asks what he thinks of his friend Percy Frankland. Larmor considers that a man with wide range is more important than a special theorist. The matter will be settled on Saturday morning; [Thomas Edward] Thorpe and [William Augustus] Tilden must be kept informed. Larmor asks for the return of his letter as he has no copy. </dc:description>
