<dc:title>Letter from Arch [Archibald] Geikie, the Athenaeum, Pall Mall, to [Joseph] Larmor</dc:title>
<dc:description>He met Francis Darwin at the Geographical Dinner after receiving Larmor's letter. Geikie though there might be unpleasant remarks if Avebury was asked to speak on behalf of the Royal Society while [William] Crookes and [John Rose] Bradford were of the same opinion. Geikie suggested to Darwin that Lord Avebury might speak as an old friend of Charles Darwin, as he did at the Linnaean celebration, and he thought this a good idea. There would be no need for a speech from the Royal Society. What Larmor told him about [William Napier] Shaw and [Charles] Chree was amusing, but could be troublesome. Shaw would be wise not to pursue a course against Kew. </dc:description>
