<dc:title>Letter from A S [Arthur Stanley] Eddington, Observatory, Cambridge, to Sir Joseph Larmor</dc:title>
<dc:description>Eddington intends to apply to the Isaac Newton Suspense Fund for instruments required by a student. A special micrometer will be needed for [Hermann] Glauert, who is starting work on photometry in connection with variable stars. He will set about getting one at once if Larmor and [Hugh Frank] Newall approve and he thinks the expense will be not more than £100. Eddington's view is that non-routine work at the observatory depends upon Isaac Newton students and it would be unfair to ask the university to pay for equipment when a fund exists for the purpose. </dc:description>
