Letter from Geo Fras [George Francis] Fitzgerald, St Lawrence Lodge, Sutton, Co Dublin, to [Joseph] Larmor Fitzgerald overlooked elastic resistance as a characteristic of the medium, comparing it to deformations of solids and liquid motion where radial distribution of rotations would not be possible. The difficulty of the fourth power of the radius can be overcome if rotation is resisted by proportional torque. The kinetic question may also be dealt with. The only remaining difficulty is how to construct a medium with these properties without a discrete structure. Fitzgerald apologises for the bother he has given Larmor, 'all my stupidity' and he is venturing into questions he knows nothing about. He may be mistaken about the two rotating ions and he asks Larmor where he might be going wrong, explaining what he understands of this. 8 July 1894
