Letter from T W [Thomas William] Holderness, India Office, Whitehall, to J [Joseph] Larmor, Secretary, the Royal Society He sends the memorandum about the qualifications of [Sir John] Eliot's successor [MS/403/4/142], and the letter from the Government of India upon which he based it, asking for the return of the latter. He suggested that the India Office might ask the Royal Society officially on two points: whether a man of the qualifications required could be found on the salary offered; and if the Royal Society would be able to undertake the selection. If so the retention of Eliot for a period would be necessary. 28 July 1902
