<dc:title>Letter from J [James] William Gifford, Oaklands, Chard, to [Joseph] Larmor </dc:title>
<dc:description>He has an unexpected confirmation of the accuracy of his refractive indices of water, given in the small table. He refers Larmor to eight measurements by different observers given in Dufet's [Recueil de] Donnees Numeriques, and he transcribes and discusses these. He thanks Larmor for a letter of 13 October, saying that he is quite ready to adopt Larmor's suggestions, if in spite of this letter he is unable to concede Gifford's accuracy. </dc:description>
