Letter from G P [Gerald Ponsonby] Lenox-Conyngham, 69 Grange Road, Cambridge, to [Joseph] Larmor He believes that the time has come to take forward a Department of Geodesy and Geophyics. When he was informed of the increase in Treasury grant, he wrote to the Secretary of the General Board to find out how the University would like to proceed, and he encloses a copy of his letter [not present]. The reply was favourable and he is asked to attend the Financial Committee; he would like Larmor, [Horace] Lamb and [Hugh] Newall to come, asking Larmor if he would be willing and if they might talk the matter over. 17 October 1930
