Letter from E J [Edward John] Routh, Newnham Cottage, Queen's Road, to [Joseph] Larmor He has heard that he and Larmor will be co-examiners for the Civil Service. This is late, as he has completed his draft questions, but at least their respective parts are described in the letter he received. Routh lists these and asks if it is Larmor's view that the hydrodynamics is to include the higher hydrostatics. He does not think their questions will clash, but asks if Larmor wishes to make changes or meet to discuss the papers. They should verify one another's solutions. In a postscript, he wonders if they should make the papers easier, as the number of mathematical candidates seems to be decreasing. 26 April 1899
