<dc:title>Letter from E [Ernest] Rutherford, Physical Laboratories, The University, Manchester, to [Joseph] Larmor </dc:title>
<dc:description>They are in the throes of electing a Chair of Engineering, and Rutherford lists the candidates. He would like Larmor to give his opinion of [Joseph Ernest] Petavel. [William Jackson] Pope has asked Rutherford to support him for the Chair of Chemistry at Cambridge, although Rutherford does not know him well personally. He believes that Pope has a reputation for being difficult to get along with, but that has changed in recent years. Rutherford finds him pleasant and he should be a strong candidate. Larmor will have read Rutherford's letter to 'Nature'. Ramsay agrees with the number of spectral lines, but informs him that he will make a number of corrections to his paper to the Royal Society. He now views the thing with equanimity and amusement. </dc:description>
