<dc:title>Letter from E [Ernest] Rutherford, 17 Wilmslow Road, Withington, Manchester, to [Joseph] Larmor </dc:title>
<dc:description>He received Larmor's letter with its remarks on Fellowship at St. John's College. He would prefer this, as he would have Larmor as a colleague. In re-reading Larmor's letters he has been struck by the constitutional difficulties in the difference between official and unofficial salaries. It seems improper for Rutherford to send in his name for a post where the full salary is uncertain, trusting that the necessary addition will come. He realises that Larmor has been working 'heroically' on this, but the constitution is not sufficiently elastic. Rutherford would prefer not to have any uncertainty, worrying about the possibility of having to draw on laboratory funds. He agrees with Larmor's solution, which he discusses, and thinks it might help to expedite matters if they met. </dc:description>
