<dc:title>Letter from J H [John Henry] Poynting, 10 Ampton Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, to [Joseph] Larmor</dc:title>
<dc:description>In Larmor's letter, Poynting was struck by his thinking that Poynting was right, and the rest was detail. He asks if it matters what the modification of energy density is in a moving enclosure. Poynting discusses Eskdalemuir seismology, thinking that the Royal Society cannot avoid funding the initiative. Without counting the cost they have set up the apparatus and accepted gifts in support of it. He thinks £175 or £200 for two years will be enough time to show if the work is good, but future funds should not come from the Royal Society. He discusses the involvement of the Gassiot Fund and thinks they are 'in a mess about Kew & Eskdalemuir'. Bringing Eskdalemuir up to a good standard would be a good use of money; magnetics at Kew is a waste of money and activities should be moved up to Eskdalemuir. </dc:description>
