<dc:title>Letter from Edmund Prideaux, Rome, [Italy], to Martin Folkes, Queens Square near Ormond Road, London, England</dc:title>
<dc:description>Prideaux reports on his most recent travels. He has been in Rome since 8th November and has been to see all the antiquities in old churches, acting as his own antiquary as Mr Parker was unavaialble. He has seen Dr Irwin, Monsieur Le Protti [Antonio Leprotti] and, at Albano, Mr Murray. Le Protti would like Folkes to commission a gold and a silver watch from Mr Graham on his behalf at cost of about £30 for a gold one and half as much for silver. Prideaux is staying near Trinity del Monte and the Strada Filici. Reports that "Monaco is dead" and his wife keeps the house which is full of English people. Prideaux eats with Giuseppi who keeps a place in Strada Babrino. He will soon travel on to Naples. Prideaux reports that he likes Rome but has met no English virtuossi there - the only English men he has encountered spend all their time playing billiards in the Place of Spain. There are fears that the Pope will not live much longer but Prideaux is to see him soon. Prideaux has seen the Vatican and laments the poor condition of the Raphael paintings there, which were being copied large scale for the King of France. He plans to get Folkes a fine print of Cardinal [Pietro] Ottoboni. Discusses financial arrangements to make sure Folkes is not out of pocket during Prideaux's travels and for payment for Le Protti's watches. Asks Folkes to write to him and also to let Henry Williams know the Prideauxs are well, and to communicate any changes with his wife's family in Norfolk to Prideaux. Sends regards from Humphry [Prideaux]. </dc:description>
