<dc:title>Letter from Benjamin Martin, Chichester, to Martin Folkes</dc:title>
<dc:description>Martin congratulates Folkes on becomng President of the Royal Society. Martin wishes to become a Fellow of the Society and has petitioned the Duke of Richmond [Charles Lennox, 2nd Duke of Richmond and Duke of Aubigny] and Folkes' predecessor Sir Hans Sloane. He asks that Folkes support his candidacy if the Duke proposes him. He indicated in his letters to Sloane and the Duke that the Fellowship would benefit his business [as a lecturer] which digusted Sloane. He assures Folkes that his motives are not mercenary but born of a respect for the Society and love of science, to which he wishes to contribute.</dc:description>
