<dc:title>Extracts from [Jean] Bernoulli's letter to [Pierre Remond de] Montmort</dc:title>
<dc:description>Extract in French from a letter forwarded to Brook Taylor, in Taylor's hand.
Bernoulli asks Taylor to stop using spitful language towards continental mathematicians as previously used in his [Philosophical] Transactions articles.
Refuses to solve a reduction proposed by Taylor, saying [Isaac] Newton and himself are entitled to 'rest on their laurels'.
Sets a mathematical bet with Taylor, asking Montmort to serve as arbitror, betting 50 guineas each that they can solve a problem set by the other and whomever solves it first gets the 100 guineas prize.
Followed by reply in English from Brook Taylor the next day on following pages</dc:description>
