Letter from Charles Lennox, 2nd Duke of Richmond and Duke of Aubigny, Utrecht, to Martin Folkes, President of the Royal Society, Queen's Square, near Bloomsbury, London Long description of the laboratory of Abraham Trembley at Sorgevloet and his experiments with pollipuses [hydra]. He describes the regenerative qualities of the hydra and their voraciousness when water fleas were released into the tanks. He passed some time with Bentinck and Trembley, who is one of the most agreeable men. Letters may be sent to Richmond via Mr. Trevor, H.M. Envoy at the Hague. A postscript notes Trembley putting pack-thread across glasses, to which hydra attach themselves, sometimes extending as much as ten inches. 24 May and 4 June 1743
