Letter from John Milne, Seismological Society of Japan, Imperial University of Japan, Tokyo, to Charles Vernon Boys Milne asks for Boys's advice on the use of quartz fibres in an experiment to record earthquakes and tremors which he outlines (with an inset drawing). Asks if the fibres would be better than those he is using at present, but wonders too if they would perform well in a horizontal pendulum (another drawing outlines his notional set-up). The BA Committee leaves him to his own devices but the assistance he can get in Japan is limited. 15 May 1891
