  <dc:title>Letter from George Gabriel Stokes, Lensfield Cottage, Cambridge, to Charles Vernon Boys </dc:title>
  <dc:description>He feels ashamed to approach Boys 'as a beggar' but requests one of Boys's photographs of a bullet moving faster than sound. He wishes to show the outline where there is a rapid change in density and also the reflection of the wave from the plane wall. He has yet to master the mathematical difficulties of this but a photograph would give him some hints on how to approach the problem. Stokes is lecturing on sound at the moment and one of his class has asked about the theory of Boys's results. He sends his Wilde Lecture and two other papers.
