  <dc:title>Photograph of a dugout canoe </dc:title>
<dc:description>Detail view of a dugout canoe abandoned in the forest behind Puerto Edén. Holes can be seen in the structure of the canoe which may have caused it to be unsuitable for use as a boat. These dugout tree trunks, usually from Nothofagus nitida trees, form the basis of the Kawésqar [Alacaluf] canoes, which are reinforced with additional planks to heighten their sides. </dc:description>
