<dc:title>Copy letter from George Gabriel Stokes, to Sir Reginald Earle Welby</dc:title>
<dc:description>Received Welby's letter of 7 August [1886] informing him that the Lords will be ready to issue a proportion of the grant made towards defraying the cost of an eclipse expedition at once. With reference to the expenditure, it was never intended to apply any portion of the grant to defray the cost of publication of the results, and in other respects the scale of expenditure is already fixed from the nature of the case as the eclipse will take place within three weeks, and the expedition left England more than ten days ago.</dc:description>
