<dc:title>Copy letter from John Evans, to Sir William George Armstrong</dc:title>
<dc:description>Evans as Treasurer of the Royal Society thanks Armstrong for his letter and most generous offer. Of subscriptions promised about £3300 have now been paid and a considerable portion already invested. In accordance with Armstrorng's suggestion some of the subscriptions are made payable in two installments but Evans will collect all he can by 1 February [1887] and then inform Armstrong of the result of their appeals. Is sending Armstrong's letter to the President [George Gabriel Stokes] who will doubtless announce the liberal promise in his Anniversary Address. </dc:description>
