<dc:title>Copy letter from John Evans, to Sir Reginald Earle Welby, Her Majesty's Treasury</dc:title>
<dc:description>With reference to Welby's letter of 7 August [1886], Evans as Treasurer of the Royal Society, provides the total outlay in respect of the Eclipse Expedition in 1886 in terms of freight, instruments and materials, and observers expenses, totalling £1126-13-0. To meet this a sum of £500 has been voted by the Government Grant Committee, being £100 more than the amount first granted. £250 has been received from Treasury. The accounts with a few exceptions have been paid through large advances from the Royal Society. Evans now therefore applies for the whole of the balance of £250 still due on the £500 voted by Parliament for the expedition. </dc:description>
