  <dc:description>The Treasurer, John Evans, to whom Turner's letter of 8 January [1887] was addressed is not presently in England, Rix has consulted the Senior Secretary Michael Foster and is instructed to say that the theodolite purchased for the Eclipse Expedition may be lent to Mr [Henry Nicholas] Ridley for the Expedition he is about to undertake by aid of a Government Grant. Rix asks Turner to also communicate to Ridley that the Grant has been received from HM Treasury and a cheque awaits his written application. </dc:description>
