Rix notes that he omitted the titles partly as a matter of taste and partly because there was a doubt about Colonel Clarke's rank. Rix has the correct title now however; Alexander Ross Clarke, C B Colonel R E. If it is not very unusual to omit titles on medals, Rix thinks it preferable to omit them. 8 November 1887
