Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Admiral Sir George Henry Richards, Fellow of the Royal Society In answer to Richards' letter of yesterday's date, the Challenger Committee was appointed on 21 March 1872 and Rix provides a quote of the relevant Council minute listing the members of the committee; the President and Officers, Dr Carpenter, Dr Frankland,, Dr Hooker, Professor Huxley, Mr Gwyn Jeffreys, Mr Siemens, Sir William Thomson, Dr Wyville Thomson, Dr Williamson and Mr Alfred R Wallace. The obituary notice of Dr W B Carpenter appeared in 'Proceedings [of the Royal Society]' volume 41, 1886, pages two to four, and was written by Professor [Edwin Ray] Lankester. 9 November 1895
