  <dc:description>'Dear Sir,
Referring to your letter of the 2nd inst. [instant], we cannot trace any proposal or invention laid before the Royal Society by the Richard Haines you mention, but there is a paper in the "Philosophical Transactions [of the Royal Society]" vol. xvi., p.268, by Edward Haines entitled "An Account of an Occulation of Saturn by the Moon, March 19, 1687, observed at Totteridge near London, latitude 51o 39'."
I am, yours faithfully,
