Copy letter and list from Professor Michael Foster, to the Secretary, Her Majesty's Treasury It will be within the memory of the Lords of Treasury that the Royal Society, after recommending in July 1895, a list of institutions and persons for presentation of a complete set of the 'Challenger' Reports, undertook at a later date to draw up a list of institutions and persons to whom incomplete copies of the report might be presented. By help of a Committee the President and Council carefully considered all the applications received and Foster sends for submission to the Lords a list of those recommended for presentation arranged into three categories; institutions to which the presentation of a large number of volumes is recommended; persons to whom on account of their services and position it is recommended that with certain exceptions the same should be presented; and institutions to which it is recommended that particular volumes should be given. The list includes libraries, museums, universities, zoological stations, naval officers, and geographical societies. 29 September 1896
