Copy letter from Michael Foster, to J Stanley Gardiner, Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge Letter of January 18, applying for a grant from the Publication Fund towards the cost of preparing the drawings of your collections from Funafuti and neighbouring islands has been laid before the President and Council. The Council is of the opinion that such grants should only be made on applications for definite publications of specific works, accompanied by an estimate of the probably cost. They do not consider Gardiner's to comply with these conditions. 3 March 1898
