Copy letter from Michael Foster, to Sir Clements [Markham] Rucker and Clements received a letter from Sir F Mowatt asking to meet him and talk about Antarctic. Admiral Charlton and Spring-Rice also went to the meeting. The result of the meeting was that it seems as though Mowatt had hoped to be able to influence Hicks Beach to put on estimates of 1900 and a [grant] of either £40,000 or £60,000.
