Copy letter from Theodore E James, to Professor George Carey Foster, Fellow of the Royal Society Mr Harrison who is indisposed, has asked James to reply to Foster's letter of 24 January respecting Mr Furse's enquiry. The Mint always had the striking of the Copley Medal, and the Royal Medals were struck there as a matter of course. Subsequently it was found convenient to place the striking of later medals and the custody of the dies, with the Mint, and the master readily undertook the duty. Cases, rim or other lettering the Society pays for. In ordinary course the request will be made for a similar extension to the Hughes dies, but no steps whatever have been taken in this direction. 29 January 1902
