Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Gore, Columbia University, New York Rix explains that Colonel Herschel suggested that the manuscript of his bibliography, property of the India Office and under the custody of the Royal Society, be lent to Gore. The official wording of the acceptance from the India Office notes the loan will be to Columbia University, so it seemed necessary to inform the President of the University of the loan and the parcel's despatch. Rix notes that it has been despatched that day via Wesley & Son to the Smithsonian Institution, addressed to Gore, care of the President of Columbia University. If it reaches Gore directly, he will need to inform the University's President himself. 2 April 1889
