Copy letter from [Joseph Larmor], to Professor Arthur Schuster, Professor Silvanus Phillips Thompson, Lord Rayleigh [John William Strutt], and Sir Archibald Geikie, Fellows of the Royal Society Applications for the Joule Studentship have now been received. The Committee of Council which examined the Mackinnon Studentship applications reported informally that the award for a second year to W G Duffield prevented them from satisfying the strong claim of Dr T H Laby and they suggested this suitability of his work on the condition of condensation et cetera in vapours other than steam, for the Joule Studentship. In this Lord Rayleigh, Professor S P Thompson and Dr A Scott concurred. Mr Laby has now sent in an application. Lists the other applications for the Joule Studentship. Unless members of the Joule Committee ask for a meeting before 8 August, he proposes by the authority of the President to notify Mr Laby that the Joule studentship has been awarded to him for 1907-1909. 3 August 1907
