The Royal Society has at its disposition various medals and other awards for scientific distinction which are not restricted to British subjects. The Society has taken a very active part in inaugurating more than one undertaking of an International character: the International Association of Academies itself owes its foundation largely to the Royal Society. The International Catalogue of Scientific Literature was also initiated by the Royal Society. 28 January 1911
