Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Professor [John Bretland] Farmer, Fellow of the Royal Society The paper by Dr R R Gates 'Breeding Experiments which show that hybridization and mutation are independent phenomena', which Farmer communicated, has been very carefully examined, but the considered opinion on it is that it is not suitable for publication by the Royal Society, and the Botany Committee cannot see their way to recommending its acceptance. Since the paper has not been read, it is open to be withdrawn. 21 July 1913
