Copy letter from [Sir Lyon Playfair], to Fellows of the Royal Society 'Dear Sir, I am instructed by the Stokes Portrait Committee to call your attention to the enclosed circular. The fund has not at present reached the sum sufficient to enable the Committee to get the proposed portrait worthily execueted, and it is thought that some of the Fellows who have not yet subscribed may be glad of the opportunity to add their donations to the sum already collected'. 16 February 1891
